The Travelers Aid movement is over 150 years old--one of the oldest charities in the United States. Arising in response to deprivation facing settlers moving West during the California Gold Rush days, this movement has evolved and continues to serve America in the tradition that "no one is a stranger here."

While the work of Travelers Aid has varied according to the needs of the community and the challenges of the era, it has always been to ease the suffering attendant to an increasingly mobile society.  As American society became more mobile, the Travelers Aid movement grew, serving virtually every part of the nation.

Core Services

Crisis Intervention
Professional casework services available to those individuals and families in crisis, e.g., intervention and coordination for risk reduction.

Because of our close proximity to major transportation hubs, we are often the first contact for a victim of domestic violence. Our professional counselors provide crisis counseling, emergency services, and have valuable referrals to domestic violence services in the community. For those who are eligible, we can also assist with a planned relocation to a safe, supportive environment.

Community and Advocacy
Links with other agencies and service providers within the community. Cooperation and coordination for unduplicated, quality services within a continuum of care.

Emergency Services
Immediate assistance to those without food, shelter or transportation as part of a case plan.

Case Management
Support, education, and prevention programs for individuals and families at risk. Case management for harm reduction, skills building, stabilization, family reunification and/or resettlement.

Volunteer Opportunities
Travelers Aid Society has many exciting volunteer opportunities at LAX and Union Station. To become involved, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at the LAX service center.
